Editorial Policy & Content Standards

At Guinea Pig Tube, the advice we publish can shape how a real animal is fed, housed and cared for — so getting it right matters to us. This page explains who creates our content, how we research and review it, and the standards we hold ourselves to. If you ever feel we’ve fallen short, please tell us.

Who writes our content

Our guides are written and edited by people with hands-on experience in guinea pig and animal care. Our team includes a veterinary technician (our founder and editor), a writer with a background as a veterinary assistant, and long-time guinea pig owners. You can meet the team on our About page.

How we research our guides

Every guide is researched against trusted, authoritative sources rather than guesswork or copied content. Where we make a factual or clinical claim, we check it against references such as:

  • The Merck/MSD Veterinary Manual and university veterinary-school resources
  • Established animal-welfare organisations such as the RSPCA, PDSA and the Humane Society
  • Veterinary practices, exotic-pet specialists and peer-reviewed information where available
  • The real-world experience of our team in caring for guinea pigs

Where it helps you check our work, we list our key references at the foot of an article. If sources disagree or the evidence is unclear, we say so and take the more cautious position.

Veterinary review of health content

Guinea pig health is a sensitive subject — these are prey animals that hide illness well, and a small mistake can have real consequences. For that reason, our health and illness articles are reviewed by a qualified veterinarian (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) for accuracy.

Important: Our content is for general information and education only. It is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice. If your guinea pig is unwell, behaving unusually, or you have any concern about its health, please contact an exotic or small-animal vet straight away — a guinea pig that stops eating for 12–24 hours is a medical emergency.

Accuracy & corrections

We work hard to be accurate, but no one is infallible. If you spot an error or something that reads as out of date, please contact us — we genuinely welcome corrections and will update the article promptly when a change is warranted.

Keeping our content up to date

Care advice evolves. We regularly review and refresh our guides so the guidance stays current, and we note when an article has been reviewed or updated. Older articles are revisited as part of this ongoing process.

Editorial independence & how we fund the site

Guinea Pig Tube is reader-supported. Some of our articles contain affiliate links, and we may earn a small commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. This never changes the advice we give: products are recommended on their merits, and our care guidance is independent of any commercial relationship. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
